My name is Megan Miller, and I am a newlywed and new resident of Winter Park, Florida. Adjusting to Florida life has been a challenge this year as I have spent almost all of my life in Atlanta, Georgia. I have a B.A. in Political Science with an emphasis on Education Policy from The University of Georgia and a Masters degree in Elementary Education from Oglethorpe University. I have taught kindergarten, first, and third grades in public, Expeditionary Learning, and private school settings. I have enjoyed working in many different school communities and I believe the varied experiences will help me lead effectively when I am in a leadership role. However, I am most comfortable with the Expeditionary Learning school model as I was trained and taught at the same Expeditionary Learning school I attended as a child.

In addition to teaching elementary school, I have experience selecting new teachers for The New Teacher Project. I have served as a corps member advisor for Teach for America and facilitated professional development sessions to improve teacher quality in the Bronx. I have also been responsible for updating and streamlining my school’s reading program in the past and am currently working on doing the same for my current school. After moving to Winter Park last summer, I accepted a position teaching first grade at a private school in the area. While I enjoy my current position, I am interested in leading a public school in the future and would love for The University of Florida to help me in pursuing that goal.

Creating opportunities for children to succeed has been a lifelong commitment of mine. I aim to create a positive school climate through a unified vision, cultivating effective teaching practices and serving as a role model in my community. I want to pursue my vision with the M.Ed. online program at the University of Florida, because it provides the preparation essential to becoming a principal and leader well equipped to build a culture that prioritizes, develops, and protects outstanding quality of education for all. I look forward to partnering with The University of Florida to achieve my goals and build new connections among my peers.
