Admission to graduate programs in the UF College of Education, including the reading program, is based on a comprehensive review of all application materials. Programs give strong consideration to the statement of purpose, letters of recommendation, relevant work and/or life experiences, performance in prior undergraduate and graduate coursework (GPA), and scores on the Graduate Records Examination (GRE). Admission decisions are based on selecting outstanding applicants who demonstrate great promise for not only completing the degree, but for becoming a competent professional as well.

Reading Education Minimum Requirements for the Doctor of Education (Ed.D.) and other non-doctoral degrees: An earned bachelors degree from a regionally accredited U.S. institution or a comparable degree from an international institution. Applicants must have a minimum GPA of 3.0 for all upper-division undergraduate work and scores that are acceptable for the program to which the students is applying. These scores are used in the context of a holistic credential review process. Reading Education Minimum Requirements for the Doctor of Philosophy (Ph.D.) degree: An earned bachelors degree from a regionally accredited U.S. institution or a comparable degree from an international institution. Applications must have a minimum grade average of 3.0 (averaging a B) for all upper-division undergraduate work and GRE scores of at least 440 on the verbal section and at least 530 on the quantitative section. These GRE scores are used in the context of a holistic credential review process. Exceptions to the above requirements are made only when these and other criteria, including letters of recommendation, are reviewed by the academic unit, recommended by the College, and approved by the Dean of the Graduate School.
