• Kristen Apraiz has received the 2014-2015 College of Education Undergraduate Teacher of the Year Award. Dr. Apraiz, a clinical assistant professor, teachers mathematics courses in the Unified Elementary ProTeach program. Dr. Apraiz was nominated by undergraduate students who noted her innovation and excellence in teaching, as well as her commitment to creating a community of learners within the classroom. • Rose Pringle has won three awards in a six-week span. She received the John Shrum Award for excellence and leadership of science teachers from the Southeastern Association of Science Teacher Education (SASTE). Dr. Pringle has also earned the 2014 William R. Jones Outstanding Mentor Award from the Florida Education Fund. Finally, Dr. Pringle has received the Mary L. Collins Teacher Educator of the Year Award from the Florida Association of Teacher Educators (FATE). Congratulations to Dr. Pringle for these remarkable achievements!
• Sevan Terzian has been awarded the College of Education’s Graduate Teaching Award for the 2012-2013 academic year. Congratulations to Dr. Terzian for earning this distinction!
• Kara Dawson has been selected as one of five UF faculty to receive the Doctoral Mentoring and Advising Awards for the 2012-2013 academic year. Congratulations to Dr. Dawson for this recognition of her fine work with STL doctoral students.
• Caitlin Gallingane has won the College of Education’s Undergraduate Teacher of the Year Award for the 2012-2013 academic year. Students see her as a role model and an exceptionally effective instructor of reading. Congratulations to Dr. Gallingane for earning this distinction!
• In the fall of 2011, the American Association for the Advancement of Science (AAAS) elected Kent Crippen to the rank of AAAS Fellow for his “distinguished contributions to the understanding of science teaching and learning.” Each year the AAAS Council elects members whose “efforts on behalf of the advancement of science or its applications are scientifically or socially distinguished.”
• The international journal, Teaching and Teacher Education (TATE), recently awarded Vicki Vescio, Dorene Ross, and Alyson Adams with the Nate Gage Prize for the best TATE Article in 2010 and the 2010 TATE award for Top-Ten Most Cited Articles for “A review of research on the impact of professional learning communities on teaching practice and student learning.”
• The graduate-school component of the Florida Master Teacher Initiative’s Teacher Leadership for School Improvement (TLSI) program has won the Association of Teacher Educators’ 2011 Distinguished Program in Teacher Education Award.
• Cathy Cavanaugh, Kara Dawson, and Albert Ritzhaupt won the Outstanding Paper Award from the Society for Information Technology in 2008 for their article, “Conditions, Processes and Consequences of 1:1 Computing in K-12 Classrooms: The Impact on Teaching Practices and Student Achievement.”
• Nancy Dana received the National Staff Development Council Book of the Year Award in 2008 for The Reflective Educator’s Guide to Professional Development: Coaching Inquiry-Oriented Learning Communities (coauthored with Diane Yendol-Hoppey).
• Ruth McKoy Lowery received the National Council of Teachers of English’s National Professional Association Service Award in 2006.
• Nancy Dana received the Distinguished Research in Teacher Education Award from the Association of Teacher Educators in 2005.
