Spring Semester 2016 Intern Scholarship Applications Open
The DC Gator Club has an open application process for one scholarship of $1,500 for a University of Florida student with an internship in the greater Washington, DC area for the spring semester. Undergraduate and graduate students who will be spending the semester in this area are welcome to apply. A scholarship will be awarded to a student who demonstrates exceptional academic achievement as well as professional promise and a commitment to the Gator Nation. Applications are due no later than January 3, 2016. To apply, fill out this form, and submit a resume and unofficial transcript to scholarships@dcgators.com.

2016 Projects for Peace – $10,000 grant for undergraduate students

The University of Florida, a partner institution in the Davis United World College Scholars Program, is pleased to announce an opportunity for undergraduate students to design a grassroots project for peace anywhere in the world!  The Davis Foundation will award the winning project $10,000 for the project to be implemented during the summer of 2016. Musician and Student Volunteer Opportunities
Mt. Zion AME Church is looking for 2-3 student volunteers to assist with building our youth department, ages 10-18. The commitment is 20-25 hours monthly, Sundays (10a-1p,) Thursdays (evening, 2 hours, 5p-7p) and one Tuesday a month (evening, 1 ½  hours, 6:30p-8p). They are also looking for a musician. The UF Boys and Girls Club is a new organization started to facilitate interns for the three Boys and Girls club centers here in Gainesville. We focus on using UF students to better their afterschool and summer programs by providing tutors and support for the children to learn and grow in a safe environment. Following internship completion there could be opportunities to be employed by Boys and Girls Club and advance to the local and national level.

Smathers Libraries has recently received a $490,000 three-year grant from IMLS (Institute of Museum and Library  Services) and we are looking for graduate students to work for us.

The grant is titled “Researching Students’ Information Choices: Determining Identity and Judging Credibility in Digital Spaces”. This project seeks to answer: 1) How do students working in science, technology, engineering, and mathematics (STEM) disciplines identify types of digital resources? 2) How do students determine the credibility of digital resources? By making the student the study’s central focus and capturing “point of selection” behavior when seeking STEM information in a simulated open-web environment, the project team will provide insights to create impactful changes in the discovery and utilization of digital scholarly information, to improve student’s information literacy, and to establish the life-long learning skills needed by tomorrow’s professionals. Research results and recommended changes in information literacy instruction will be disseminated broadly through workshops, webinars, conference presentation, published articles, and white papers.
