Teaching isn’t the only profession you’ll hear about if you attend UF’s College of Education Career Night on Wednesday, April 8^th. From 4-5 pm, in the Reitz Union Auditorium, there will be a panel of four dynamic College of Education alumni offering career advice and discussing the distinctly different career paths they each have followed—quite successfully—after earning their education degrees at UF. 2^nd Annual North Florida EnergyWhiz Expo – Saturday, April 11^th

Line Dance Lessons
Have you always wanted to learn to line dance? Now’s the time to start! Join me from 5:30-6:30pm on Tuesdays in the Terrace Room starting Tuesday, March 31. We will meet every Tuesday through the end of April, except for Tuesday the 14th because the Terrace Room is not available that day…unless we can find an alternative location. If you can’t make it every week, that is okay too; come when you can. No experience required and all are welcome. You don’t need to wear cowboy boots, but you are welcome to wear them if you choose. We will learn line dances to a variety of music. Dress comfortably, wear shoes you can move in, and be sure to bring water.  There is no set charge; however, I request a suggested $5 donation per class to help raise money for a mission trip to Uganda this summer to build a home for abandoned babies and work with children in an orphanage.  Line dancing is lots of fun and a great stress reliever for the end of the academic year. • EDF 6403: Research Course will be offered this summer. It is the six-credit required research course for all COE doctoral students. This is a great opportunity for doctoral students to focus the summer on research and on fulfilling all research course requirements. Stressed? Worried about a friend? Kognito can help!
With the stress of the semester piling up and deadlines looming at every turn, the UF Counseling and Wellness Center would like to highlight Kognito, an online resource to help students learn to recognize signs of stress and realistically practice talking to other students about it, with the goal of connecting them with support on campus. UF students are able to do this for FREE through the Counseling and Wellness Center’s home page at www.counseling.ufl.edu where you can click on the “Worried about a Friend” link, or at http://counseling.ufl.edu/cwc/kognito-for-students?mID=186. This experience is done at each person’s convenience, and only takes 30 minutes. This gives YOU the chance to develop an invaluable set of skills to help friends in distress and, quite possibly, to help prevent suicide. Summer Camp Volunteers Needed
Balance 180 Gymnastics & Sports Academy is a local non-profit organization that focuses on integrating children with varying abilities through sports. This summer, we are running our third annual summer camp, and need volunteers that are excited to work with children with special needs! Summer camp is a great learning experience for student volunteers. All of our volunteers work 1-1 or 2-1 with the participating campers in a wide range of activities including gymnastics, crafts, and games. The athletes have a range of disabilities including Autism, Down Syndrome, ADD/ADHD, and Cerebral Palsy among others. Camp will be offered July 13 – July 31, Monday – Friday, from 8am-5pm. Volunteers do not need to commit to the entire three weeks or all day, however, we do ask that volunteers sign up in advance for the days they are available and indicate either morning (8am-12:30pm) or afternoon (12:30pm-5pm) shifts. Informational Meeting – Education College Council
On Thursday, March 19^th at 4:00 PM in the Terrace Room, we will be holding an informational meeting regarding the Education College Council (ECC) and the upcoming nomination and election period for the 2015-2016 academic year.  In recent years, the ECC has served largely as an undergraduate organization.  We are in the process of reorganizing the ECC as an umbrella organization for the entire college, serving both graduate and undergraduate students for the purpose of:

1. Providing leadership for the students and student organizations of the College of Education.
2. To serve as a liaison between the student organizations of the College of Education and the Student Government of the University of Florida.
3. Support and promote the clubs/organizations of the College of Education
4. Provide programs of interest and relevance to the student body of the College of Education
5. Promote communication between the faculty, staff and students of the College of Education

To begin this process, we are holding an organizational meeting.  We would like students interested in leadership positions from across the college, and representatives from the different student organizations that currently operate in the college, to attend this meeting. The UFTeach Student Organization is having a panel presentation on Thursday, March 19th from 6:00-7:00pm in Norman 174. The panel will be comprised of 4-6 UFTeach graduates that are currently employed in ACPS and other districts in Florida. The participants will share information about their teaching assignment, if the UFTeach program was helpful in preparing them for their own classroom and answer questions that the students might have.

Women’s History Month is proud to present: Women with Disabilities – Friday, March 20^th
This event will begin with a tabling fair from 6:00-6:30pm. Student organizations pertaining to disabilities will be present, along with representatives from the Disability Resource Center and Disabilities in Society Minor. Following, Dr. Jeanne Repetto and Susan Horky from Shands will give a brief discussion regarding disabilities. Dr. Repetto, Susan Horky, and Jenna Gonzalez started a graduate certificate program at the College of Education based on health care and education transition for students with disabilities. We’ll wrap up the night with a panel of women with disabilities. Topics include the stigma surrounding mental illness, stereotypes, discrimination, disability advocacy and awareness, and much more! Facilitators Needed for LeadUF Leadership Conference
LeadUF is a two-day overnight retreat giving you a chance to learn and practice leadership in the context of working with others. This conference was created 100% by University of Florida faculty and staff, based on their personal experiences in campus leadership. Program: The Data Incubator is an intensive 7 week fellowship that prepares masters, PhDs, and postdocs in STEM + social science fields seeking industry careers as data scientists. The program is free for fellows and supported by sponsorships from dozens of employers across multiple industries. Pablo de Olavide Summer Camp Counselors (Spain)
Pablo de Olavide University is pleased to announce a 3-week summer internship for students interested in working with children in Seville, Spain. We are looking for motivated students with an intermediate level of Spanish to work with Spanish children aged 3-5 or with children aged 6-14 during a 3-week period (June 22-July 10) at a summer camp on Pablo de Olavide University’s campus in Seville. Although the internship is not paid, it will include a free 22-hour upper intermediate Spanish grammar course (1.5 U.S. credits) at the University’s International Center and access to the Center’s social/cultural activities. Following the morning Spanish grammar class, the student will spend a minimum of 2-hours daily helping the camp staff with activities, games, etc. in English. In addition to the transcript for the 22-hour Spanish grammar course, students will receive a certificate from the director of the UPO Sports Department who oversees the summer camp.This opportunity is limited to 4 native English speakers and will include a Skype interview as part of the selection process. Education Career Night – Wednesday, April 8th

Teaching isn’t the only profession you’ll hear about if you attend UF’s College of Education Career Night on Wednesday, April 8th, from 4:00 to 5:00 p.m., in the Reitz Union Auditorium (open to everyone!) . Interested in learning more about Peace Corps? 
On Thursday, February 19th at 4:00 p.m. there will be a Returned Peace Corps Volunteer panel in the International Center in HUB. Several returned volunteers from different sectors and regions will be available to share their experiences and answer questions you may have. Some highlights will be learning about why they joined, the cultural adaptation process, their primary and secondary projects, biggest challenges, host family living, how their service affected their career path, etc. It’s a really great opportunity to hear what Peace Corps service is like from a variety of perspectives.

The following week, Tuesday, February 24^th, UF students will also have an amazing opportunity to talk live with a currently serving Peace Corps volunteer. He is a native of Gainesville and will be visiting family during his vacation. He has offered to come speak with interested students here on campus. We’ll be hosting a brown bag lunch session here in the International Center in HUB at noon. Are you an undergraduate student interested in doing funded educational research?
Apply for the University Scholars Program by Friday, February 20th! The College of Education has the opportunity to award 3 selected undergraduate students, who will be designated as University Scholars, the opportunity to work one-on-one with a chosen faculty member on a research/creative project of mutual interest. Students participating in this program will receive a $1,750 stipend to support research efforts under the faculty mentor.  This funded research will be conducted during the student’s junior or senior year.

In order to be eligible, students must have earned a 3.3 upper division GPA or a 3.0 GPA for a minimum of 75 credit hours of completed coursework. Additionally students must not graduate with their undergraduate degree before Spring 2016. Join us this spring break, to empower K-12 students to own their financial and economic success. Talk and Book Signing with self-made business mogul Mike Fernandez
Join us on Tuesday, March 10, at 4:15 p.m. in the President’s Room at UF’s Emerson Alumni Hall for an inspirational and moving talk by billionaire entrepreneur Miguel “Mike” B. Fernandez. He will talk on some of the formidable challenges he faced and life lessons he learned while figuring out the American dream and becoming a captain of the health care industry. He wrote about his experiences in his new book, Humbled By The Journey: Life Lessons For My Family…And Yours. This personal memoir explores Fernandez’s beginnings as a penniless Cuban immigrant and his transformation to a self-made business mogul. The presentation will be followed by a book signing. Summer Workshop in Qualitative Methods – University of California, Berkeley
The Center for Ethnographic Research (CER) Workshop provides mentorship, hands-on research experience, and advanced training in designing and executing a project using qualitative methods for advanced undergraduates and beginning graduate students. The CER Workshop will provide students with six weeks of intensive accelerated methodological training in the design and practice of qualitative methods in weekly seminars taught by CER graduate students. Join UF and International Student Volunteers in New Zealand During Summer of 2015!
Mark your calendars for Summer 2015! International Student Volunteers (ISV), a world-recognized and award-winning service organization named as one of the “Top Ten Volunteer Organizations” by the U.S. Center for Citizen Diplomacy in conjunction with the U.S. State Department, will pair with UF undergraduate students for the experience of a lifetime. Participate in a 2 week volunteer experience protecting New Zealand’s fragile ecosystems, and an optional 2 week adventure portion. The trip will be led by knowledgeable and responsible trip leaders who will work closely with in country staff to provide you a safe and rewarding experience. In addition, a UF PhD student will be in attendance as a University Leader to further provide context for learning and to serve as a touchstone to the UF community. College credit may also be available through independent study. We will be accepting only 12 participants, so apply ASAP! Are you a College of Education undergraduate student interested in earning Magna Cum Laude (High Honors) status at graduation? Are you an undergraduate student interested in doing funded educational research?
Apply for the University Scholars Program! The College of Education has the opportunity to award 3 selected undergraduate students, who will be designated as University Scholars, the opportunity to work one-on-one with a chosen faculty member on a research/creative project of mutual interest. Students participating in this program will receive a $1,750 stipend to support research efforts under the faculty mentor.  This funded research will be conducted during the student’s junior or senior year.

In order to be eligible, students must have earned a 3.3 upper division GPA or a 3.0 GPA for a minimum of 75 credit hours of completed coursework. Additionally students must not graduate with their undergraduate degree before Spring 2016. The UF Counseling and Wellness Center would like to highlight Kognito, an online resource to help students learn to recognize signs of stress and realistically practice talking to friends about it, with the goal of connecting them with support on campus. UF students are able to do this for FREE through the Counseling and Wellness Center. This experience is done at each person’s convenience, and only takes about 30 minutes.
