UFIT Provides Free Storage and Collaboration Tools

Access to cloud-based collaboration tools has been essential for UF’s successful transition to hybrid campus life. In case you didn’t know, all students, faculty, and staff with active GatorLink credentials can get UF-Dropbox, G-Suite, and OneDrive from the GatorCloud.

The advantage to using the versions UFIT provides is that you get an additional layer of security with your UF account and unlimited Dropbox and Google Drive storage! There is a very helpful chart on the GatorCloud homepage outlining what you get with each service. UFIT also recently published a new video overview of GatorCloud services.

UFIT Offers HiPerGator Training and Consulting

New and returning faculty have access to research computing expertise through 1-on-1 consulting and many free training options offered each semester. Remote consultations and support are available Monday through Friday.

During the university’s continuing response to Covid-19, Research Computing facilitators use Zoom during their listed walk-in office hours (https://www.rc.ufl.edu/help/walk-in-support/). You can click on each facilitator’s name on this page to connect via email on the walk-in support page, if the consultation and support office hours do not work with your schedule.

NSF Fastlane is going away, and UF is supporting the transition to Research.gov for NSF proposal submissions. Join us as we walk through preparing a proposal in Research.gov and gain insight from a UF Division of Sponsored Programs (DSP) and departmental perspective on lessons learned. We will also show how to create a bioksetch in SciENcv, and highlight recent NSF updates to biosketches and current and pending forms.

The National Science Foundation (NSF) Research.gov Proposal Submission System modernizes proposal submission and improves the user experience. The new system has been developed incrementally as capabilities are migrated from FastLane to Research.gov.

Last month the National Science Foundation (NSF) issued guidance on NSF’s implementation of the Office of Management and Budget (OMB) Memorandum (M-20-26), titled, Extension of Administrative Relief for Recipients and Applicants of Federal Financial Assistance Directly Impacted by the Novel Coronavirus (COVID-19) Due to Loss of Operations.

NSF remains committed to working with the Administration, other federal agencies, and the research community to effectively respond to the COVID-19 national emergency. In order to support charges against NSF awards, recipients are reminded of their responsibility to maintain appropriate records and documentation to support the charges in accordance with institutional policies and procedures.

FAQs relating to NSF’s implementation of OMB Memorandum M-20-26 for NSF proposers and awardees and for NSF major facility cooperative agreement recipients are available on NSF’s website.

Changes to NIH Notice of Award Coming October 1

Starting on October 1, 2020, applicants will see a new layout of Page One of the National Institutes of Health’s (NIH) Notice of Award (NoA). This new layout is part of the Department of Health and Human Services (HHS) Reinvent Grants Management initiative to standardize the NoA across various HHS systems and reduce the burden on applicants.

More than a year ago, when the Institute of Education Sciences (IES) began to think about the Standards for Excellence in Education Research (SEER), no one imagined SEER would define characteristics of how IES structures so much of its work. Most of the SEER principles just seemed like good science and essential for good policy.

Next Steps in On-Campus Research Resumption: Progressing to Stage 3

It has been four weeks since we started the process of bringing UF researchers back on campus through the UF Research Resumption Plan. I want to thank everyone for their incredible efforts. Research activities of over 4,000 UF faculty, staff, post-docs, and graduate students were successfully reviewed and approved though the Research Activity Approval Portal. These efforts to reengage activities that were disrupted due to the COVID-19 pandemic are remarkably important to the research mission and objectives of our enterprise. Again, thank you for your resiliency, patience, and dedication.

Beginning June 18 2020, we have progressed to Stage 3 of the resumption plan.
