NSF Releases Prospective New Awardee Guide

The National Science Foundation (NSF) has released a revised Prospective New Awardee Guide effective June 1, 2020. The new awardee guide contains helpful information for preparing documents and for understanding the requirements of managing a federal award. In addition to complying with all NSF regulations, recipients of NSF awards are required to comply with all applicable federal requirements set forth in 2 CFR 200, Uniform Administrative Requirements, Cost Principles, and Audit Requirements for Federal Awards.

NSF Delays Requirement of New Templates

As you may know, the National Science Foundation (NSF) has released the new Proposal and Award Policies and Procedures Guide (PAPPG) 20-1 effective for proposals submitted or due, and awards made, on or after June 1, 2020. To assist the UF community, the UF Division of Sponsored Programs (DSP) has highlighted some of the key changes in PAPPG Summary of Changes. However, you are encouraged to review the by-chapter summary of changes provided in the Introduction section of the PAPPG. NSF has provided helpful resources related to these changes, which can be found on the DSP National Science Foundation Updates webpage.

NSF has delayed the requirement to use the NSF-approved formats for the biographical sketch and current and pending support sections of NSF proposals until October 5, 2020. NSF encourages everyone to begin using these formats prior to the October effective date. NSF Releases FAQs for Robert Noyce Teacher Scholarship Program

The National Science Foundation (NSF) has released FAQs for its Robert Noyce Teacher Scholarship Program. The FAQs focus on (1) Eligibility and Support, (2) Repayment of Scholarship or Fellowship, (3) High-Need School District, (4) General Inquiries, and (5) Track 4: Noyce Research. Applications Are Open for the Summer 2020 Career and Technical Education Research Training Institute

The Career and Technical Education (CTE) Research Network, supported by the Institute of Education Sciences (IES), seeks to expand the evidence base on the impact of CTE programs on student outcomes. The CTE Research Network is now accepting applications for its first training institute. There is no cost to attend. Accepted participants will receive a $500 stipend upon successful completion of the course. All applicants will be notified of placement by July 15, 2020. UF 2020 Summer Seminar Series: Research Integrity and the Responsible Conduct of Research

This summer, UF Research Integrity, in collaboration with Responsible Conduct of Research (RCR) on Campus, is hosting a seminar series on Research Integrity and the Responsible Conduct of Research. Participants may enroll in one class, the whole series, or any combination of classes. If participants enroll in and attend the full series, they will earn an RCR certificate, satisfying NSF and USDA RCR requirements. Classes are open to all UF faculty, staff, and graduate students. Due to the high demand, the deadline for enrollment in all classes is June 15, 2020 or when the registration cap is reached. Three Tips for Crafting Need Statements in Federal Grant Proposals

The U.S. Department of Health and Human Services Health Resources and Services Administration provides a grant writing guide titled “Tips for Writing and Submitting Good Grant Proposals” offering many helpful suggestions, including how to write successful need statements.

Tip #1: Address the need that the funding opportunity is intended to fill — not the organization’s need for funding.

Tip #2: Communicate the organization’s familiarity with addressing the defined need.

Tip #3: Illustrate the need with a concise but concrete story.

UFIRST FYI: Updating Project F&A Returns

Each year, the Office of the Vice President for Research returns F&A costs collected from grants and contracts during the preceding fiscal year (July 1 – June 30) to principal investigators, department chairs, and if appropriate, directors of certain authorized centers. The remainder of the F&A costs collected are returned to the college after Sponsored Program Assessment (SPA) is calculated. For details regarding your current sponsored project distributions, please login using your Gatorlink at reporting.it.ufl.edu.  Navigate to Team Content > Sponsored Program Information > Awards > Center Return. UFIT Upgrades File Storage System for HiPerGator

UFIT is upgrading the storage options for HiPerGator users. Now in its final stages of stability, functionality, and performance testing, the new “blue” storage system will be available in June. Details on how files will be transferred from /ufrc to /blue will be published on the Research Computing website this month. In preparation, system users should schedule some time to remove old, unneeded data so that it does not have to be moved. Currently, the /ufrc holds 1.7 PB (83% of capacity.)
