OER Report of Accomplishments for Fiscal Year 2013-2014

The OER is currently completing a draft of its annual report outlining data on externally funded projects and grants activities. Faculty productivity has been sustained, and efforts toward securing external funding remain active.

The following represents a summary of accomplishments for Fiscal Year 2013-2014:

  • COE faculty members in all schools and centers have submitted a total of 70 proposals, requesting $32.2 million in grant funding. Proposal submissions included one to the National Institutes of Health, two to the U.S. Department of Justice, eight to the U.S. Department of Education (including one to the Institute of Educational Science [IES]), six for IES subcontracts, ten to the National Science Foundation, seven to the Florida Department of Education, and two to the Spencer Foundation.
  • COE PIs and Co-PIs had 30 new proposals funded totaling over $8 million in new awards, including two awards from the National Science Foundation. This represents a 36.4% percent increase in the number of newly funded awards as compared to the previous fiscal year.
  • Finally, COE schools and centers have 70 currently funded projects totaling over $74 million. This represents a 4.5% percent increase in the number of currently funded projects as compared to the previous fiscal year.

New Demo Video and Training Available for myinvestiGator

A brief online video is now available at myinvestiGator 2.0 Video Demo (New) providing an overview of myinvestiGator functionality. Additionally, OER will host a more in-depth myinvestiGator training for faculty this fall. Information on the training will be available soon.

MyinvestiGator is an online decision-support tool for sponsored projects.  The tool easily answers such questions as “How much money do I have left?” and “Can I hire another graduate student this summer?”  The navigation and information is geared specifically to principal investigators (PIs) with additional details available to administrators who can facilitate communication with core offices, review balances and transactions, and perform other management functions.

Navigation to myinvestiGator is through myUFL > Main Menu > myinvestiGator, or via direct access at https://myinvestigator.erp.ufl.edu.

The Division of Sponsored Programs, Contracts and Grants, Office of the Chief Financial Officer, and UFIT partnered to build myinvestiGator designed to increase accountability, transparency, and efficiency in UF’s sponsored activities.

New Three-Part Qualtrics Workshop Series Introduced

Do you need to learn how to develop surveys and analyze respondent data? Learn all of the ins and outs of survey development by signing up for the free three-part Qualtrics workshops. Offered at the HUB, the series explains how to use Qualtrics, the online survey tool provided free to all faculty and staff.

The three workshops in the series are Qualtrics Basic, Qualtrics Moving On, and Qualtrics Advanced. Each 2 hr 30 min workshop features a hands-on learning experience. The series covers everything from creating and distributing surveys to editing surveys and analyzing the results.

A new Qualtrics for Mobile Devices and Offline Surveys workshop is also available for faculty and staff interested in using the Qualtrics app on their mobile devices. Workshops are scheduled as needed. If you’re interested in participating, please e-mail Jose Silva-Lugo with your name, college or department affiliation, and UF employee affiliation (faculty, staff, master’s degree student or Ph.D. candidate). The workshop series will be scheduled once 15 participants express an interest, with a maximum of 20 participants per workshop.

Data Management Plan (DMPTool) Training Coming This Fall

This fall, the OER will host a DMPTool training for COE faculty. Information on the DMPTool training will be available soon. Data management plans (DMPs) are now becoming a standard part of grant proposals for most funding agencies. The DMP should address the entire life cycle of the data. Some components of a DMP include data types, metadata, legal and ethical issues, data sharing, and data preservation.

The DMPTool helps you through the process of generating a comprehensive DMP tailored to specific funding agency requirements. The DMPTool also allows multiple users to access the plan during the development process, so other members of the grant team can provide input. Once you have created a DMP template, it can be saved for use on subsequent grant proposals. Secure On-Site Data Disposal Service

UF requires the destruction of old data on any electronic equipment that is discarded, transferred, or reused. UF has an on-site media disposal and shredding service available for faculty and staff. The service is available at the Health Science Center (in the Communicore Building) and at the Hub. Items accepted for secure disposal include the following: CDs and DVDs, USB flash drives and memory sticks, cell phones, camera memory cards, microfiche and film, external hard drives, floppy disks, tapes, and removed internal hard drives. If you have any items with stored data that you want to discard, this is the way to do it safely and quickly. Learn more about the process in this UF Information Technology news article.
